Reports to: HIV and Sexual Health Services Manager

Classification: Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Salary & Benefits: $40,000 - $45,000. The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401K with an employer contribution, voluntary life, short-term, and long-term disability insurance, paid parental, family care and gender affirming healthcare leave. Schedule: Generally Monday through Friday. Work days and hours may shift depending on scheduling needs; typical schedule will be 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; flexibility required including evenings and weekends.

Summary: The HIV and Sexual Health Specialist will have primary responsibility for providing HIV, Hep C, and STI testing, tabling off-site, on-site, and virtually, providing support at outreach events in the community, and implementing and delivering services to engage participants, and provide referrals for further services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide HIV, STI, and Hep C rapid testing both on-site, off-site, and virtually. Rapid testing is offered at The Center and will require evening hours.
  • Meet program goals related to engagement and retention in HIV Services and Center programming.
  • Conduct strategic outreach and provide assessment to community members as needed in the field.
  • Provide education around PrEP, PEP, Hep C, STIs, and HIV through a trauma-informed lens.
  • Engage in substance misuse education and harm reduction discussions.
  • Provide referrals to other programming at The Center and with community partners as indicated, such as OASAS programming, PrEP and PEP services, or linkage to HIV Care.
  • Conduct follow up outreach for community members via various methods (such as in person, phone, social media, etc) to increase consistent engagement in services.
  • Record services provided in databases such as SPARS, Redcap, or Salesforce.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of training and outreach events with community partners.
  • Engage in weekly supervision with the HIV and Sexual Health Services Manager and participate in recurring interagency and external meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • HS diploma, GED or equivalent transferable life/professional experience.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required.
  • HIV/HEP C Testing Training Certification and Phlebotomy Certification for STI testing preferred.
  • Previous experience in working within the field of HIV prevention, treatment, and outreach preferred.
  • Prior knowledge of PrEP/PEP preferred.
  • Experience working with the ballroom community is a plus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience, from a trauma-informed perspective, in working with individuals that have experience working with survivors of crimes and their families, including survivors of intimate partner violence, hate crimes and violent crimes.
  • Significant knowledge, understanding and experience working with LGBTQ+, TGNC, POC, and Immigrant populations, including knowledge of the spectrum of gender identity, transgender issues, immigration, and POC issues.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of work styles and cultural backgrounds.
  • A flexible, creative, and assertive self-starter is a must.
  • Understanding of, and commitment to, undoing structural and institutional racism and bias and the spectrum of gender identity and bias. Consideration of the impacts and outcomes in decision-making processes and on underserved and historically oppressed communities.
  • A strong commitment to social justice and the mission of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:

The Center is subject to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Commissioner’s Order requiring COVID-19 Vaccination for Staff in Residential and Congregate Settings from New York City’s Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The Center is required to comply with this order because we have a number of contracts with New York City.

All current and new staff must either provide a one-time verification that they are fully vaccinated with either a single-dose of an FDA- or WHO-approved one-dose COVID-19 vaccine or the second dose of an FDA- or WHO-approved two-dose vaccine.
